Each year, new flooring trends come to the forefront. So, what can we expect in flooring in 2015? Here are our ideas:
- Carpeting: the key word for 2015 is green. We’re not, of course, referring to the color – we’re referring to the environment! Today’s carpet manufacturers are cognizant of the fact that people are concerned about the future of the environment, and they’re keeping the CFC’s out of their carpeting. In addition, many manufacturers are recycling nylon into carpeting, with a texture that is similar to that of silk!
- Hardwood: hardwood is one of those timeless materials used in homes…and now, the wood is extending to the kitchen! This is mostly due to the emergence of the “open concept” kitchen – the kitchen that removes the wall between the cooking area and the living room, and/or the wall between the cooking area and the dining room, and/or sometimes both! In order to keep a consistency in the flooring, hardwood is extended into the kitchen, giving the cooking area a timeless look.
- Vinyl: of course, this is not your grandmother’s vinyl flooring! Today’s vinyl flooring is considered to be “luxury,” in the sense of, anything that you can photograph can be converted into a vinyl floor!
- Tile: in 2015, the tiles are getting bigger and bigger. The standard tile format of 12x12 is out, and some tiles are going as large as 32x32! And it’s not just square tiles that are in fashion – in 2015, tiles are rectangular, too! In fact, a lot of these tiles are looking like fabric or wood, so it’s not just ceramic-looking.
- Other Flooring Trends: in 2015, there are ‘alternative’ flooring trends that are beginning to emerge. One of the biggest trends out there right now? Bamboo. It’s fast-growing (so it’s sustainable) and looks just as good – if not better – than hardwood floor.
